The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of chemical composition, inclusion and precipitates on the pitting corrosion resistance of manganese alloyed austenitic stainless steel. The measured values of pitting corrosion were obtained from three electrolytic solutions: seawater (3.56wt%NaCl), sulfuric acid solution (0.5MH2SO4) and sulfuric acid plus Sodium Chloride Solution (O.5MH2SO4+0.4MNaCl). In the experiment, it is observed that manganese sulfide is the cause of corrosion. When the chromium content decreased and the manganese replaced some nickel, the pitting corrosion resistance decreased in seawater and sulfuric acid + Sodium Chloride Solution. On the other hand, there is no clear correlation between the number of inclusions and the potential of pitting corrosion. In the sulfuric acid solution, no corrosion spots were observed, all the materials showed a similar shape to the passivation range. However, in the passivation range, the dissolution rate of the AISI304 steel is the best, and the passivation performance of the steel is more than second, which contains more manganese and less nickel and chromium.
